The supply of biogas to 32 houses through pipe was materialized after the construction of a plant at Shreekrishna Sewa Sadan of Biratnagar Metropolis-14. “Now these 32 households don’t have to worry over LPG and cylinder. This initiative should be launched across the country to be self reliant on energy,” he underscored.
He assured that the government would promote the production of biogas plant as it was cheaper than LPG and was environment-friendly.
The capacity of the plant is 200 cubic meters. The associations providing assistance to install the plant were provided felicitation letters by the PM.
On the occasion, Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Barshaman Pun, shared that Nepal imported the cooking gas of Rs 38 billion last year alone. The import of other petroleum products was also high. Therefore, such initiative at local level was very useful to help reduce increasing import of fuel. He however said Nepal would have sufficient energy needed for it in five years.
Acting Executive Director at Alternative Energy Promotion Centre Nawaraj Dhakal has said this project has provided that the high scale biogas plant would replace the imported fuel and chemical fertilizer. The expansion of such initiative would contribute to the campaign of prosperous Nepal happy Nepali.
Sewa Sadan Chairman Shankar Raj Agrawal shared that the dung of 205 cows was used for the biogas plant. He said the Sadan has expected assistance from federal and local governments and donor agencies. World Bank Country Director Faris Hadad-Zervos said the WB had been continuously providing assistance to Nepal in energy sector and it would be continued in the days to come as well. The Plant was constructed at the cost of Rs 15 million with investment shares of WB, AEPC, Biratnagar Metropolis and the Sadan.
