Is this how much Rajinikanth-starrer ‘Kaala’ has earned?

Superstar Rajinikanth’s gangster drama ‘Kaala’ is arguably the most anticipated Tamil release this year. After much delay, the D-day is finally here and the film has opened to a terrific response from fans. Though ‘Kaala’ witnessed a very low advance booking for a Rajinikanth film, it looks like the film has already fetched enough profits for the producers.

If reports are anything to go by, ‘Kaala’ has reportedly earned a whopping Rs 230 crore even before its release. Notably, the satellite rights alone were sold for a price of Rs 70 crore. Reports say that ‘Kaala’ has earned Rs 155 crore through its theatrical rights. Tamil Nadu rights alone have been acquired for Rs 60 crore, followed by AP/Nizam region with Rs 45 crore and Rs 10 crore from Kerala.

Rajinikanth has a very good overseas market and the rights have been sold for Rs 45 crore. Considering the pre-release numbers, it looks like ‘Kaala’ has already turned out to be a profitable venture for Wunderbar Films. According to trade pundits, the film is expected to have a solid opening at the box office.

Directed by Pa Ranjith, ‘Kaala’ will see Rajinikanth playing a gangster once again on screen. The film also stars Nana Patekar, Pankaj Tripathi, Samuthirakani, Huma Qureshi and Easwari Rao in supporting roles.
